CAN ECT BE GIVEN AS AN EMERGENCY?

In very urgent situations this can happen. If a consultant believes that a patients life is in danger because of severe depression then ECT can be given as an emergency. This usually only applies to the first one or two treatments. The Mental Welfare Commission must be contacted as soon as possible.
