WHAT IS A COURSE OF ECT?

ECT usually takes place a s a course of several treatments. It may be given two or three times a week, until a patient has had between six and twelve sessions altogether. Some people, however, may need only two or three treatments. If the person being treated has not improved after a maximum of about twelve sessions, further ECT would not normally be given.
